Acne Vulgaris, the common acne:

Blackheads are pores, partly blocked. They are those tiny, little black dots and you might think they are caused by dirt. This is not so they are caused by the melanin pigment from the dead skin cells.

Whiteheads are pores, entirely blocked. The bacterial inside the blocked pores turns the sebum to ‘free fatty acid’ which in turn appears white on the affected area.

The small, red, tender spots are called papules.

Then you have the larger, red and inflamed spots called pustules or cysts. Those spots are filled with pus but it is sterile and does not actually contain infectious bacteria.

Those are different types of acne and these blemishes usually occur when there are a lot of oil glands and typically appear mainly on the face, chest, shoulders and back. A few of the causes of acne could be stress, heredity, hormones, dirt and food to mention a few.

There is a lot you can do to treat the different types of acne. You might want to go to a dermatologist to get advice, which treatment would be best for your acne. Then you can make your decision what to go with, because there are a lot of natural treatments as well. Maybe you want to go with the treatments that cause the least side effects first. Of course those would be the natural ones, like essential oils, herbs, or what you can find in the kitchen, baking soda etc. and acupuncture. How to treat the different types of acne is a very individual choice and nobody can really tell you which action to choose, but as mentioned before more often then not it is trial and error and what you need most is patience.
